Review of Hotels in Malaysia

Hilton Double Tree (4*)

Right in the Kuala-Lumpur Golden Triangle district, Hilton DoubleTree is located ten minutes from the famous Petronas Towers and K.L. Convention Center. With its contemporary functional design, the hotel feels business-oriented.

The service is extremely slow and not very helpful. All members of the staff, from concierge to food court assistant, seem completely spaced out and confused; this must be the reason why they provide wrong information 9 times out of 10. I asked for my coffee check and 15 minutes later got another coffee instead (and I was the only customer in the café!). I waited for my bags to be sent up to my room upon arrival for 30 minutes, despite the reassurance at the reception desk that they were "sending them up immediately". If you call up their "care-line" in an attempt to resolve an issue, they don't really seem to care much: generally, the response is, "Let me investigate it and call you back", and they never call you back (as an experiment, I waited for 30 minutes once on a fairly simple internet issue), I guess they hope that the problem will just fix itself and you will be off their back.

The rooms are simple, clean, and spacious. I don't care much for the transparent wall between the bedroom and the bathroom areas though. You can close it off with a screen, but it's impossible to do it yourself, you have to call on help (and this is a bit frustrating for the reasons stated above).

The showers are great, products - Crabtree-Evelyn.

To be able to embrace the breakfast experience in Asia, you have to think outside your usual European breakfast box and just think "food", any kind of food, all kinds of food at the same time. Too bad if you are the "morning coffee and toast" type. Of course, you'll find both here, don't worry, but what you will miss is inexplicable: the breakfast spread at DoubleTree includes curries, rotis, soups and noodles in addition to the regular French toast, pancakes and cheese. If you can afford it, please allow at least one hour to savor the treats.

The internet is not free: 48 ringgit ($16) for 24 hours. This includes the cable internet in the rooms and wi-fi in all the public areas of the hotel.
